Terrace Townhouse

Terrace Townhouse is a phased renovation of an existing Los Angeles townhouse, named for the llarge outdoor terrace that extends the house beyond its compact plan. The project began as an ordinary domestic shell and is being gradually reworked through built-in furniture, lighting, surface, and objects. Each intervention adding another layer to the house. The renovation treats the townhouse as a lived project, shaped through daily use rather than a single finished gesture.

The renovation follows the rhythms of the house rather than a single master gesture. Rooms are adjusted as they are lived in, with each phase resolving a specific problem of storage, light, circulation, or use. The library wall, bar, office, living room, and terraces become part of one evolving interior, where practical decisions are allowed to carry architectural weight.

Material choices give the townhouse a more settled character. Stone, timber, paint, metalwork, and fabric appear as layered surfaces rather than matching finishes. Built-ins are treated as architecture at the scale of furniture, allowing storage and everyday objects to become part of the composition.

The terraces give the compact house its sense of release. They extend the rooms outward and create moments of pause within a dense urban setting.
